Abstract
Objectives: This study was carried out to investigate the growth profile and supplementary feeding pattern of healthy breastfed infants who participated at the Healthy Breastfed Baby Contest for two years (2006~2007).

Methods: Using the descriptive research method, the subjects of this study included 360 infants (226 boys, 134 girls) ranging from 5 to 7 months old. The data were collected using questionnaires to parents and anthropometric measurements of the baby.

Results: Eighty three percent of the mothers decided to breastfeed before their pregnancy and 59% intended to continue breastfeeding until their child reaches 1 year. The growth profiles revealed that body weight, length, and head circumferences were higher than the Korean National Growth Charts except the length of 7 month infants. Body Mass Index of the breastfed infants was within the normal range. Almost all of the 7-month-old baby¡¯s mothers carried out the supplementary feeding to their baby.

Conclusion: Growth pattern of the exclusively breastfed infants exceeds the Korean National Growth Standard until six months after birth. Supplementary feeding is started on time for most of the infants. It is necessary for breastfeeding mothers to be taught suitable weaning methods.
